MEXICO | Generals arrested on suspicion of narco links. Two retired army generals and one on active duty have been arrested on suspicion of association with the drugs trade — specifically the Beltrán Leyva organisation (BLO, that is, the remnant also known as the Pacífico Sur cartel, led by Héctor Beltrán Leyva, currently in an alliance with Los Zetas). Retired General Tomás Ángeles Dauhare, a former undersecretary of defence, and active-duty General Roberto Dawe González, who had been serving as commander of a military zone in Colima, were arrested on 15 May. Retired General Ricardo Escorcia Vargas, who had been relieved of the command of a military zone in Morelos in 2007 and filed for retirement in April 2010, was arrested two days later.
