Growth. The economy grew by 3.7% in the second quarter of 2011, according to a report by the central bank (Banguat). Agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishing grew 3.6%; manufacturing industry, 4%; transport, sewage and communications, 3.1%; private services, 4.2%; and public administration and defence by 8%. Banguat is forecasting GDP growth of between 2.9% and 3.4% for 2011, above the 2.8% registered in 2010 but less than the 4% projected by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Eclac) in a regional survey released in July. GDP growth is offset however by inflation: monthly inflation for September was -0.07% bringing the accumulated rate to 5.78% and the year-on-year rate to 7.25%.
