ECUADOR: Correa runs into problems in assembly

President Rafael Correa’s grip on the unicameral national assembly is now under threat. A key vote was scheduled for 11 August, the day after Correa was scheduled to give his annual state of the nation address. The vote is intended to confirm the result of a 31 July vote when the ruling Alianza País (AP) managed to get its president of the national assembly, Fernando Cordero, re-elected, and to hold fresh elections for the assembly’s two vice-presidents.
