Opposition to the way in which former President Alvaro Uribe (2002-2010) does politics during the 2010 Colombian presidential campaign was in large part responsible for the stellar performance of the fledgling Partido Verde (PV), now commonly known as the ‘green wave' effect. This year, however, the wave could crash against the rocks as Uribe's public backing of Enrique Peñalosa, the PV's mayoral candidate for Bogotá in the 30 October regional elections, may lead to the exit of one of the party's most popular figures, former presidential candidate Antanas Mockus.
