The comings and goings of the opposition have come to an end after the electoral authorities closed, on 15 June, the process to register alliances ahead of October's general election. However, with all declared alliances -except Alianza Proyecto Sur - having already chosen their presidential and vice-presidential candidates by "consensus", the 14 August mandatory and simultaneous open primaries for the two top posts in the country seems to be not only an obsolete formality but also an unnecessary waste of time and money.
