COLOMBIA: UN issues stinging criticism on human rights

Jan Egeland, the UN humanitarian coordinator, declared on 10 May that 'Colombia is by far the biggest humanitarian catastrophe of the Western Hemisphere'. Upon returning from Colombia, Egeland told reporters: 'It has the biggest number of killings in the Western Hemisphere_ It's the biggest humanitarian problem, human rights problem, the biggest conflict in the Western hemisphere.'
