BRAZIL: EU poses problem for Mercosur

A proposal from the European Union sent to the Mercosur countries is causing them a dilemma. Under the proposal, the EU will open parts of its agricultural market to Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay in exchange for more access to Mercosur's financial and service sectors. However, the European scheme requires that the Mercosur countries stop pressuring the EU for the complete opening of its agricultural market under the stage of the Doha round of the World Trade Organization talks.
