CUBA: Jitters prompt new crackdown on dissidents

It was almost like the infamous roundup of 75 dissidents in early 2003, which led to a freeze in all but strictly diplomatic and business relations with the European Union. The big difference was that this time the government did not stage show trials and sentence the detainees to long prison terms. A large number of those arrested have already been set free, and the others are expected to follow. Several opposition leaders believe the government is fearful and jittery in the run up to this year's 26 July celebrations.
