COLOMBIA: AUC probes official willingness to accommodate
As two more paramilitary groups prepare to demobilise, the largest remaining member of the umbrella Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia (AUC) appears to be probing the limits of the government's willingness to accommodate it for the sake of full 'demobilisation'. One of its leaders has proclaimed the AUC's intention of becoming a political party, while some of its field units have been moving into areas vacated by demobilised groups.
