ARGENTINA: Energy crisis looms

Real GDP rose almost 9% annually in 2007 (and by 9.7% annually in December 2007), so even if there had been a lot of investment in expanding the country's capacity, there would be a bit of an energy crunch this year. As it stands, the government's reluctance to remove its official price caps has deterred private investment, and so the prospect of winter blackouts looms again.
