BRAZIL: Overachieving

The country's macroeconomic policymakers are revelling in a slew of impressive statistics. Real annual GDP growth in 2007 was 5.4% and the finance minister, Guido Mantega, expects growth this year to at least match that. Industrial production is booming and despite the strength of the real against the dollar, exports are holding up. Gilding the boom is the slowdown in inflation.
