ECUADOR: Confident of a better 2008

President Rafael Correa claimed that GDP growth in the non-oil sector was 4.4% in 2007 and that this was satisfactory. It was the second worst performance in South America (only Bolivia's growth was slower). What is more, if the crucial oil sector in included in the figures, the overall GDP growth rate slumped to 2.6%, according to the latest estimate from the central bank.
