The coastal plains around Pisco and Ica, close to the epicentre of the
devastating earthquake that hit on 15 August (which measured 7.9 of the Richter
Scale) are the centre of the Peruvian asparagus and wine and brandy industry.
Farmers say that 90% of their crop has been destroyed.
