The Venezuelan armed forces are "politicised and partisan," declared one of President Hugo Chávez 's aides, General Alberto Müller in mid June. This declaration cost Müller, previously one of Chávez 's closest aides, his advisory post in the presidential office. Chávez denied the charge stating "this is the sort of thing the enemy says". Yet it seems that Müller's claim was made not in disapproval, but just to state the facts as he saw them.
