Close relatives of those who disappeared or were executed now receive about US$300 a month. No figure has yet been specified but reparations of some form will now be extended to torture victims. Under the proposed measures, human rights cases will be given priority in courts, and special judges will be appointed to deal with all such cases.
The new plan also aims to speed up the trials of those accused of kidnapping, torture and murder during the Pinochet era. Three former members of the Chilean military- retired colonel Hugo Cardemil, former military police colonel Pablo Caulier and military policeman, Luis Alberto - all received lengthy prison terms last month for the kidnapping and disappearance of some 20 opposition figures between September and November 1973.
