*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released its monthly estimate of economic activity (Emae), a monthly proxy for GDP, reporting that economic activity fell 1.7% year-on-year in August, but rose by 0.1% in monthly terms, on seasonally adjusted figures. This marks the second consecutive month of annual decreases in the Emae, following a drop of 1.5% in July, while the monthly rise compares to a contraction of 2.8% last month, according to the latest figures. Despite the monthly rebound, this was much lower than the 1.5% estimate of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. Five out of 16 sectors recorded yearly increases in the Emae, led by mining and quarrying (+11.1%) and electricity, gas, and water (+4.3%). Of the 11 sectors to post annual declines, fishing (-15.7%) recorded the biggest drop.
