*Costa Rica’s central bank (BCCR) has published its latest monthly economic activity index (Imae), which showed a 2.2% year-on-year increase in August,
down from 2.5% in July and 3.0% in June. According to the BCCR the slower growth was explained by a slowdown in special tax regimes (RE) which, while up 0.7% year-on-year, was down 15.3 percentage points on the annual growth rate registered in August 2025. In August 2026, growth was driven by construction, which was up 11.0% year-on-year, professional and administrative services (+2.8%), trade (+2.8%), and financial services and insurance (4.1%). Manufacturing was the only category to post a year-on-year decline, falling 1.1% in August.
