In brief: Colombia registers diminished coffee harvest

*The CEO of the Colombian coffee growers’ federation (FNC), Germán Bahamón Jaramillo, has released figures showing that coffee production in the 2025-2026 season was down by 15% year-on-year. The growing season, which ran from October 2025 to September 2026, saw 12.65m sacks of coffee produced (one sack = 60kg), down from 14.87m in the previous season. Coffee exports also fell, with 11.78m sacks exported this season, down 12% on the last season. Bahamón  highlighted that the sector is facing difficulties including “climate challenges, coffee plantation productivity, and the profitability of producer families”. However, there were signs of improvement in September, when coffee production was up 6% compared to the same month in 2025, with 1.22m sacks produced. Coffee exports also increased by 9% year-on-year in September to total 1.17m sacks.
