*Brazil’s federal oil and gas regulator (ANP) has raised over R$3bn (US$598m) in signature bonuses in an auction which awarded oil exploration concessions in 49 blocks. These are located across various basins in the northeast of the country or near the country’s northern and north-eastern coasts, such as Potiguar, Tacutu, Recôncavo, Parnaíba, Tucano Sul, and Ceará, as well as the Campos Basin near Brazil’s south-eastern coastline. In addition to the 49 blocks, the ANP also auctioned off concessions for three areas with marginal accumulations located in the Potiguar and Tucano Sul basins. The total signature bonus for the three areas came to R$1.6m. The contracts were awarded to firms such as Brazil’s state-controlled oil company Petrobras, a consortium between Petrobras and Qatar’s state oil firm QatarEnergy, Brazilian energy company Eneva, Romanian oil firm Petrom, and Canada-based oil company Alvopetro, among others.
