In brief: Remittances to Mexico down in August

*Mexico’s central bank (Banxico) has announced that the country received US$5.45bn in remittances in August, down 3.6% year-on-year. The August remittance amount was also down on US$5.57bn received in July. However, in the first eight months of the year, remittances totalled US$41.80bn, up 2.2% year-on-year from the US$40.90bn received in the same period of 2025. This comes despite the US tax on remittance cash transfers and an intensified immigration crackdown under US President Donald Trump.
