Foreign policy friction compounds Kast’s problems

Chile’s President José Antonio Kast is battling to regain political momentum amid mounting public disillusionment over his failure to deliver on core campaign promises to create more jobs and get a grip on violent crime and illegal immigration. Kast’s right-wing government is also wrestling with intense criticism of its geopolitical alignment with the US and Argentina. Opponents, and even some allies, accuse him of subordinating national sovereignty to ideological considerations.
