*Brazil’s labour ministry has released the latest job creation data from its national employment registry (Novo Caged) which showed a net 165,827 new jobs created in August. This marks an increase compared to the net 55,915 new jobs created in July and 154,683 jobs in August last year. The latest monthly result is also higher than the median forecast of 106,900 jobs projected by analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. In August this year, new hires totalled 2.29m, up from 2.28m the previous month and 2.27m in the same month in 2025, while dismissals totalled 2.13m, down from 2.22m in July but higher than 2.11m in August 2025. Meanwhile, the national statistics institute (Ibge) has reported that Brazil’s unemployment rate in the rolling quarter of June-August 2026 stood at 5.3%. This remains unchanged from the rate registered for the May-July quarter, but it marks a decrease from the rolling quarters of March-May 2026 and June-August 2025, both of which registered a jobless rate of 5.6%.
