*Cuba’s national statistics office (Onei) has released new figures showing that Cuba received a total of 450,353 international tourists in the first eight months of 2026, down 64.4% on the same period the previous year. The latest Onei figures reflect the crisis afflicting Cuba’s tourism sector and the rest of its economy due to the campaign applied by Washington aimed at pressuring it to make economic and political reforms. Of the total, Canada accounted for 128,400 tourists in the first eight months of 2026, down from 526,239 in the same period in 2025 (-76%), while the US accounted for 41,971 tourists, down from 84,020 (-50%). Mexico accounted for 22,246 which was down 42% on the same period in 2025, Russia accounted for 21,563, (-73%), and Argentina 15,144, (-57%). The country received a total of 1.81m international tourists
in 2025, down 18% on 2024.
