In brief: CAF announces investment in Chile

*The Latin American development bank (CAF) has announced an investment of US$6bn in Chile following a meeting between Chile’s President José Antonio Kast and the president of CAF, Sergio Díaz-Granados in Santiago. The funding will be made available to Chile over the next four years “with the aim of supporting the government’s priorities and boosting private investment to increase productivity and employment”, as well as supporting Kast’s capital markets and home financing reform, which was unveiled on 9 September, according to the CAF press release. The bank’s support will be structured across four priority sectors: housing and employment, infrastructure, water, and security. Díaz-Granados’ visit occurs within the framework of the international forum ‘Digitising for Transformation: Technology and Innovation for Development in Latin America and the Caribbean’, which took place in Santiago on 14 September and was organised by the bank with the help of Chile’s ministry of science, technology, knowledge, and innovation.  This was the first edition of the forum, which will take place annually in Chile, with over 250 leaders and officials attending from across the region.
