In brief: Cuba’s inflation jumps in August

*Cuba’s national statistics office (Onei) has released the consumer price index for August, putting monthly inflation at 4.92%. This brought the annual inflation rate to 25.19%. Inflation was up sharply from July, when the monthly rate was 2.56% and the annual rate was 20.70%. The steepest monthly price increases in August were in alcohol and tobacco (+17.12%), food and non-alcoholic drinks (+8.54%), and restaurants and hotels (+4.76%).
