In brief: Mexico hails rise in international tourism

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released its latest figures on tourism, showing that Mexico received 8.65m international tourists in July, marking a 2.9% annual rise, and an increase from 8.19m in June. Of the total, 4.41m (50.9%) stayed at least one night in the country, while 4.24m (49.1%) visited as day trippers. Total spending by international visitors reached US$2.96bn in July, down 1.3% year-on-year, while average spending was down 4.1% year-on-year, at US$342.
