In brief: Paraguay’s foreign minister heads to Europe
*Paraguay’s Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez Lezcano has travelled to Brussels, Belgium, to hold a series of meeting with authorities from the European Union (EU) in which he will address the trade deal between the EU and the Mercosur regional trade bloc, among other issues. In a statement, Paraguay’s foreign ministry said that the meetings would take place from today (7 September) and address the export quotas secured in the deal, which provisionally took effect in February, in particular. Paraguay has expressed dissatisfaction with proposals made by other Mercosur members for dividing up the quotas, stating it left some partners with disproportionately small amounts. On 9 September Ramírez will travel to Paris, France, where he will meet with France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, and the secretary general of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann.
