*Chile’s central bank (BCCh) has released the latest figures for its economic activity index (Imacec), showing a 1.5% year-on-year decrease in July, while in monthly terms the Imacec was down 1.7%, more than all estimates in a Bloomberg survey of economists that had a -0.6% median forecast. The July figure followed
a rebound in June after five consecutive months of year-on-year declines, and follows year-on-year contractions
in the first two quarters of 2026. According to a BCCh report, the July decline was due to mining which fell 9.3% year-on-year and 9.4% in monthly terms, while non-mining activity was down 0.3% year-on-year, and 0.5% in monthly terms. The BCCh report said that the decreases were partly caused by weather conditions that affected the normal functioning of production facilities, after the country was hit by
severe storms between July and August that caused extensive damage.
