*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the unemployment figures for the rolling quarter ending July 2026, which showed a jobless rate of 5.3%, equivalent to 5.8m unemployed people. This is down from 5.4%
in April-June, 5.8% in the February-April rolling quarter, and from the 5.6% unemployment rate registered for May-July 2025. The total employed population in Brazil stood at 103.3m people in May-July this year, which marks an increase of over 1.0m people compared to the February-April quarter and an increase of 899,000 compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, Brazil’s labour under-utilisation rate in May-July this year stood at 13.0%, down from 13.8% in February-April and from 14.1% in May-July 2025.
