*Mexico’s national electoral institute (INE) has approved its preliminary budget proposal for the 2027 fiscal year, which includes the key midterm elections, for M$31.43bn (US$1.85bn). The proposal is divided into a M$14.04bn base budget for central INE offices, and local and district offices; M$13.45bn for the organisation of federal elections; M$474.31m for organising local elections; M$775.86m for preparing for judicial elections; and M$1.45bn to strengthen the management, administrative evaluation, and culture of public service. The INE also approved federal public financing for political parties and independent candidates, equivalent to M$10.84bn. The ruling Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) will receive the most funding, at M$2.69bn, followed by the right-wing opposition Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) with M$1.33bn, the centrist opposition Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) with M$1.01bn, and the leftist opposition Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) with M$995.09m. Morena’s allies, the Partido del Trabajo (PT) and Partido Verde Ecologista de México (PVEM), were allocated M$688.45m and M$854.24m, respectively.
