NICARAGUA: OAS denounces Ortega’s move to end elections

The Organization of American States (OAS) moved swiftly to condemn comments by Nicaragua’s President Daniel Ortega threatening to end elections in the country so that the opposition could never again “grab the government, grab power”. But while 10 OAS member states levelled some trenchant criticism at Ortega in a statement issued after a hastily arranged extraordinary meeting this week, reaching an agreement on concrete action will take some time, if it materialises at all.
