*Nicaragua’s central bank (BCN) has released its monthly economic activity index (Imae), showing that the economy grew by 0.9% year-on-year in May. The activities with the highest rate of growth in May were energy and water (21.1%); construction (12.5%); hotels and restaurants (12.5%); livestock (8.5%); and transport and communications (5.9%), the BCN reported. There were heavy contractions in other sectors, notably fishing and aquaculture (-29%); mining and quarrying (-16.8%); and manufacturing (-11.1%). The mining figure was principally down to lower gold extraction, the BCN explained. In its latest monthly monetary policy report, the BCN forecast economic growth of between 3.5% and 4.5% in 2026, with annual inflation ranging between 2.5% and 3.5%.
