*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the unemployment figures for the second quarter of this year, showing an unemployment rate of 5.4%, equivalent to around 5.9m people. This marks a decrease from 6.1% employment in Q1 and from 5.8% in Q2 2025. Meanwhile, the total employed population stood at 103.1m people in Q2 this year, which marks an increase of 1.08m people compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 742,000 people compared to the same quarter last year. Brazil’s labour underutilisation rate (the sum of those unemployed and underemployed) also decreased, dropping from 14.3% in Q1 to 12.9% in Q2. This also marks a decrease from the 14.4% underutilisation rate in the second quarter of 2025.
