In brief: CAF announces four-year funding package for Colombia

*The Latin American development bank (CAF) has committed to providing US$9bn in finance for Colombia from 2026-2030. A CAF statement described the pledge as “the most ambitious bet that the CAF has made on Colombia” and said that the support would be “structured along four great axes: energy security; infrastructure for productivity; prosperity and social inclusion; and territorial presence and strengthening”. The CAF’s president, Sergio Díaz-Granados, outlined the plan on 24 July at a ceremony alongside Colombia’s far-right President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella, who takes office on 7 August. De la Espriella said that “this agreement with the CAF isn’t merely a financial commitment; it’s an expression of confidence in Colombia’s future”. He added that “this support will allow us to advance with our priorities for development and convert each dollar into works, infrastructure, energy, drinking water, employment, and opportunities that improve Colombians’ quality of life”.
