In brief: Brazil’s services sector declines in monthly terms

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released new figures showing that the total volume of services provided in the country decreased by 0.4% from April to May. Meanwhile, the national services volume in May this year was up 0.4% compared to the same month last year, and the accumulated volume for the 12 months through May 2026 was up 2.6% on the preceding 12-month period. Of the five categories of services measured by the Ibge, two posted monthly drops in volume – transport and postal services (-1.0%) and other services (-1.9%). Monthly increases were registered in services provided to families (+0.2%) and professional, administrative, and complementary services (+1.9%), while information and communication services registered zero monthly variation.
