In brief: Inflation surges in Venezuela

*Venezuela’s central bank (BCV) has released its latest consumer price index, putting monthly inflation at 13.8% in June. This was up from 6.3% in May and was the highest figure since February, when monthly inflation stood at 14.6%. The BCV did not provide an annual inflation figure. Monthly price increases were high across the 13 categories measured by the BCV, with the steepest rises in transport (+16.2%), education (+15.2%), utilities excluding phone bills (+14.9%), and healthcare (+14.8%).
