In brief: Brazil’s inflation slows in June

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest figures for the official consumer price index (Ipca), which showed a monthly inflation rate of 0.16% in June and put annual inflation at 4.64%. This marks a slowdown from the monthly rate of 0.58% and annual rate of 4.72% registered for May. The annual inflation rate was below every estimate in a Bloomberg survey of economists, whose median forecast was 4.80%. Of the nine categories of products and services measured by the Ibge, seven posted monthly price rises in June. The greatest monthly inflation was registered in housing (+0.63%), personal spending (+0.25%), household items (+0.23%), and health and personal care (+0.23%). The two categories that posted monthly deflation were food and drinks (-0.24%) and education (-0.02%).
