In brief: Argentina-Chile border crossing reopens

*Argentina’s national security ministry has announced the reopening of the Sico international border crossing, located between the north-western province of Salta and Chile’s northern region of Antofagasta. The ministry said the crossing would be reopened to both private vehicles and cargo transportation. It said that the reopening of the crossing, which follows major upgrades and repairs, “recovers a strategic connection for the integration between Argentina and Chile and strengthens the Bioceanic Corridor, facilitating trade, international logistics, and the productive development of North America”. The security ministry said it had played a “central role” in the operation to re-establish the functioning of the border complex, working with national border authorities and promoting the necessary conditions for the return of Chilean border control services.
