In brief: Annual inflation rises in Chile

*Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released the inflation figures for June, showing zero monthly inflation and an annual inflation rate of 4.3%. This comes after a monthly inflation rate of 0.2% in May, when the annual rate was 3.9%. Of the 13 categories of products and services measured by the INE, eight registered a monthly rise in prices and four registered monthly deflation in June, with only one category, education, posting zero price variation. The categories with the great monthly inflation rates were insurance and financial services (+3.4%) and alcoholic drinks and tobacco (+0.9%). The greatest monthly price decreases were registered in clothing and footwear (-6.1%) and home equipment and maintenance (-1.7%).
