*Colombia’s national statistics department (Dane) has published the consumer price index for June, putting annual inflation at 6.14%, up from 5.84% in May, and the highest rise since July 2024, when annual inflation was 6.86%. Monthly inflation for June was 0.39%, down from 0.47% in May. In annual terms the categories to see the highest rises were restaurants and hotels (9.59%), health (8.39%), education (7.57%), and alcoholic drinks and tobacco (7.02%). In monthly terms the categories which saw the steepest price increases in June were food and non-alcoholic drinks (0.67%), housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (0.52%), and alcoholic drinks and tobacco (0.50%). The rise comes as Colombia’s central bank (Banrep) last month raised interest rates by 75 basis points to 12%, the first rise in interest rates since March. The bank cited the fact that inflation had maintained an upward trend and is moving further way from its target of 3.0% +/- 1.5.
