Colombia’s President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella has announced his choices for the interior and finance ministries. In his campaign speeches, De la Espriella ‘the outsider candidate’ sought to draw a contrast between ‘los de siempre’, which roughly translates as ‘the usual suspects’ from the Colombian elite, and ‘los de nunca’, the majority who are always excluded from the corridors of power with whom he sided. However, in his first cabinet appointments there is a strong element of conservative continuity.
