*Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released the latest unemployment figures, which showed that unemployment in the rolling quarter of March-May 2026 stood at 9.4%, equivalent to 981,315 people. This is up from 8.9% in January-March and 9.1% in February-April. In year-on-year terms, the latest figure also marks an increase compared to the unemployment rate of 8.9% registered for March-May 2025. According to an INE press release, Chile’s total labour force, which stood at 10.4m people in March-May this year, increased by 1.3% over 12 months, while the total number of formally employed people, which stood at 9.4m people, increased by a slower rate of 0.8%.The rise in formal employment was driven by growth in the sectors of manufacturing (+5.2%), health activities (+6.0%), and professional activities (+11.6%).
