*Mexico’s tourism ministry (Sectur) has announced that 48 new air routes have been launched in June, comprising 29 national and 19 international routes,
“strengthening Mexico’s domestic and international connectivity”. Tourism Minister
Josefina Rodríguez Zamora highlighted that the new connections include strategic routes within the country and to priority international markets including Colombia, Spain, Brazil, and the US. She stated this will help increase the flow of visitors, strengthen tourism exchanges, and diversify source markets for Mexico. Notable domestic routes include connections between Acapulco, a seaside resort town in Guerrero state, and the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) in Mexico City (CDMX); Puebla, the capital of the eponymous state, and Los Cabos, a major resort destination in Baja California Sur state; Puerto Escondido, a popular surf town in Oaxaca state, and Tijuana, a northern border city in Baja California state; and Nuevo León state capital Monterrey and San Luis Potosí, the capital of San Luis Potosí state. Internationally, key routes include AIFA to Cartagena and Medellín in Colombia; Monterrey to Spanish capital Madrid; and Caribbean resort city Cancún to Brazilian capital Brasília; as well as Jalisco state capital Guadalajara to Detroit, Los Cabos to Las Vegas, Monterrey to New York, and Puebla to Los Angeles in the US. The new connections were launched by the Mexican airlines Aeroméxico, Mexicana de Aviación, Viva Aerobus, and Volaris, Brazilian airline Gol, Spain’s Iberia, and US airline Southwest.
