*Cuba’s national statistics office (Onei) has released new figures showing that Cuba received a total of 359,491 international tourists in the first five months of 2026, down 58.4% on the same period in 2025. This comes as the US administration led by President
Donald Trump continues to apply
massive pressure to the island through a fuel blockade, among other measures, which has exacerbated the country’s multifaceted economic crisis and led countries such as
Canada and
Russia, key sources of tourism, to halt flights, and foreign tourism companies to
pull out of the country. Of the total, Canada accounted for 126,239 tourists in the first five months of 2026, down 67.4% on the same period in 2025, while the US accounted for 25,572 tourists (-55.3%). Russia accounted for 21,136 tourists (-62.5%) followed by Mexico (14,865, -33.7%) and Argentina (14,172, -29.3%). The country received a total of 1.81m international tourists
in 2025, down 18% on 2024.
