In brief: Argentina’s monthly inflation slows to lowest level since September

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest figures for its consumer price index (IPC), showing a monthly inflation rate of 2.1% in May, while annual inflation stood at 33.2%. The May figure marks a slowdown from the monthly inflation rates of 2.6% in April, 3.4% in March, and 2.9% in both January and February, and is the lowest monthly rate since September 2025, which also registered a monthly rate of 2.1%. It is also lower than the 2.4% estimate of economists surveyed by Bloomberg and the 2.3% forecast of analysts surveyed by Reuters. In annual terms, the May inflation rate was up from 32.4% in April, 32.6% in March, 33.1% in February, and 32.4% in January. Of the 12 categories of products and services measured by Indec, the greatest monthly price increases were registered in communication (+3.4%), education (+2.9%), and recreation and culture (2.8%).
