In brief: Brazil’s services sector posts higher growth

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest figures for the country’s services sector, showing that the total volume of services provided in April rose by 1.2% in monthly terms. This follows a period of recent stagnation and decline for the sector, with zero monthly growth in January and February and a 1.1% monthly decrease in services volume registered in March. In year-on-year terms, the volume of services provided in April was up 1.9% compared to the same month last year, and the accumulated services volume in the 12 months through April 2026 was up 2.9% on the preceding 12-month period. All five categories of services measured by the Ibge posted monthly rises in volume. The greatest increases were registered in services provided to families (+1.4%) and other services (+2.2%).
