In brief: Argentina’s industrial and construction activity declines

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released new figures showing that the country’s industrial activity in April declined by 2.1% in monthly terms and 2.8% year-on-year, while construction declined by 4.0% compared to March and 2.8% compared to April last year. Accumulated industrial activity from January-April 2026 was down 2.4% on the same period last year, while construction activity during those four months was up 2.1% compared to January-April 2025. Regarding product categories, the greatest monthly decreases in industrial activity were registered in textiles, clothing, leather, and shoes (-7.0%), food, drinks, and tobacco (-5.0%), metal products, machinery, and equipment (-5.0%), and petroleum refining, chemicals, rubber, and plastic products (-3.1%). Textiles and clothing was also the category with the greatest year-on-year decrease (-17.7%), with significant year-on-year declines also registered in metal products, machinery, and equipment (-13.5%) and other equipment, devices, and instruments (-11.4%). In construction, the greatest year-on-year declines in activity were registered in granite and limestone mosaic tiling (-18.9%), plaster (-17.5%), and lime (-16.4%).
