In brief: Chile reports harvest figures

*Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released figures from its national agricultural survey, estimating that the area of land sown in the 2025/2026 season was 1.10m hectares (ha). Cereals accounted for 53.8% of the land sown, forage crops for 21.9%, industrial crops for 10.8%, vegetables for 8.8%, and legumes and tubers for 4.6%. Within the cereal group, which totalled 593,737 ha, white wheat was the leading crop with 210,042 ha, followed by oats with 151,993 ha and corn with 120,725 ha. Industrial crops covered a total area of 119,282 ha, with rapeseed accounting for the largest share with 62,788 ha. Regarding livestock production, the survey estimated a total of 2.43m head of cattle, 936,546 head of sheep, and 267,330 head of goats in the regions under consideration. The survey was carried out in the regions of Arica y Parinacota, Atacama, Coquimbo, Valparaíso, Santiago Metropolitan region, O’Higgins, Maule, Ñuble, Biobío, La Araucanía, Los Ríos, and Los Lagos. The ENA was launched last year as “a key tool for generating agricultural statistics”, according to an INE statement.
