*Uruguay’s national statistics institute (INE) has released new figures showing that the country’s unemployment rate in April stood at 7.5%. This marks a decrease from 7.8% in March. The labour participation rate, which counts people who are either employed or actively seeking work, stood at 64.2%, a slight decrease compared to 64.3% the previous month, while the national employment rate in April was 59.5%, up from 59.3% in March. Regarding gender disparity, the latest INE figures showed an unemployment rate of 6.4% for men and 8.7% for women. In terms of age groups, the highest rate of unemployment in April was registered among people aged 14-24, with a jobless rate of 23.3%, and those aged 25-29, with 10.2% unemployment. The latest data showed a direct correlation between age and employment, with the younger age groups showing the highest jobless rates, while the unemployment rate was only 4.5% for people aged 45-54, 3.7% for people aged 55-64, and 1.8% for those above 65. There was little difference between the capital and the rest of the country, with Montevideo posting an unemployment rate of 7.6% while unemployment in the rest of Uruguay stood at 7.4%.
