In brief: Argentina’s trade surplus rises

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released its latest trade figures, showing a monthly trade surplus of US$2.71bn in April. This is up from US$2.58bn in March and US$214m in April last year. Exports in April 2026 totalled US$8.91bn, up from US$8.70bn the previous month and from US$6.67bn in April 2025, while the total monthly import value stood at US$6.20bn, up from US$6.12bn in March and down from US$6.46bn in April 2025. Significant year-on-year increases were registered in exports of fuels and energy, with a monthly export value of US$1.55bn (+85.9%), and industrial manufacturing, with exports totalling US$2.53bn (+43.3%). Argentina’s top export destination in April this year was Brazil, with a monthly export value of US$1.16bn (-17.9%), followed by the US (US$876m, +33.9%), and Chile (US$732m, +33.8%).
